Damn the pumpkins! Full speed ahead!!

So, paper topics. Yeah...fun times. Well, I know I already somewhat mentioned what I wanted to do, but I feel like I've narrowed it down a little bit. I want to write my paper about the physical manifestations of death in fantasy and how it is used to develop the characters, or something like that. I want to use Botch Town, and I know that 'death' is called the devil, but I think it can be used interchangeably with death, so yeah. I'm not sure other than that, maybe using Small Gods by Terry Pratchett, along with the brief interlude with death in Monster's Regiment. I'm not sure though, any suggestions would be wonderful...I don't mind reading a new book for my paper as long as it isn't a million book long series or something. Thanks, see you all tomorrow!!

*cracks up* I read your subject line and just lost it for a little while.

I like your idea but I wonder if it wouldn't almost be easier to do using one of the other short stories instead of Monster's Regiment.

Yeah, I was thinking that too, but I wasn't sure which one to use.

You could argue that Charon in Ford's "Boatman's Holiday" is himself a personification of death.

Death (the Pratchett character) is a focus of several Discworld novels (Reaper Man, Mort, etc.).

Other genre examples that come to mind: Neil Gaiman's Death in the Sandman series (who gets two graphic novels of her own, the first being Death: The High Cost of Living); Poe's "The Masque of the Red Death"; the medieval "Dance of Death" painted by Hans Holbein in the 1520s (remember, you can write about visual art, too); and, in the movies, Ingmar Bergman's The Seventh Seal and its many parodies (Woody Allen's Love and Death, Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, Monty Python's The Meaning of Life, the misunderstood Schwarzenegger spoof The Last Action Hero, etc.).

Also recommended: "Come, Lady Death" by Peter S. Beagle, and Fritz Leiber's several Fafhrd and Gray Mouser tales in which Death is an antagonist -- but those might be harder to find on short notice.

The Death in the Gaiman works is pretty cool; she's a goth girl and one of my favorite characters ever. You should definitely at least look her up!

lol...Death in FAMILY GUY. Hey. Don't judge me, we were all thinking it. I think that Charon, Botch Town guy and SOMEONE ELSE TOTALLY RANDOM are your best bets. Has anyone else read the horsemen of the apocalypse series by Piers Anthony? I think he has a pretty short book in which death is the main character. OH! Now I remember. Amy, it's called ON A PALE HORSE. I really enjoyed it, and it's a pretty fast read.

If we cant use the Muppets in our papers will Family Guy do?
