The men's fashion portfolio in the February Esquire, starring Andy Samberg of Saturday Night Life, includes this old dude with a secret amulet. Be sure to read Samberg's accompanying quote, below the photo.
Before Harry Potter and Peter Jackson's Tolkien movies, this joke would have mystified Esquire readers; now they all get it.

That has to be the most hilarious picture I've seen this week. Yes, it's only Tuesday, but still...
hahaha....i love that. The picture is kind of creepy, but the caption is amazing...
Hahaha, that is an amazing picture. The old guy definitely looks a bit creepy. Maybe like a old pervert...kinda...if I saw that guy on the street I would run away.
Your comment, Amy, reminds me of all the Harry/Dumbledore slash fiction out there ...
Another joke wizard stars in a current TV commercial for Alltel. My point, still: This demonstrates the universal recognition, in U.S. pop culture, of the stereotyped Merlin/Gandalf/Dumbledore wizard.
I'm happy to say that Harry Dresden, the Chicago wizard for hire, totally breaks away from the merlin stereotype. EVERYONE SHOULD READ JIM BUTCHER.
