Pratchett

I love Pratchett. Big surprise, right? The man is hilarious. There are so many moments in his stories where the craziest things happen. I cracked up when I read the part where the coffee bean bag fell out of the sky only to land on Maladicta, right as she was was about to loose it.

But... I also think that there are real veins of truth that flow through his stories. Look at the ending; it was just perfect. I like where he says:

"The enemy wasn't men or women, or the old, or even the dead. It was just bleedin' stupid people who came in all varieties." (389)

As fun as his stories are to read, I think they also resonate with us because of the other things they say in between all the hilarity.

Pratchett is great isn't he? His books were my first entrance into the fantasy genre. You may be interested to know that he has been diagnosed with a rare form of early onset Alzheimer's disease. What is it with my favorite authors and rare diseases?

Only Kalen would present a favorite neurodegenerative disorder as show-and-tell. :)
But Pratchett's writing is very well-grounded. By that, I mean, I think a lot of people could be able to see that truth that Renee pointed out behind his tales.
I absolutely love that he just comes out and announces in the end that people can be pretty stupid, and they are the biggest hindrance to society. ... I want to high-five him... if that were still cool...

I can't agree with you guys more. Stupidity will be the end of the world as far as I am concerned. I really like the lighthearted yet serious way Pratchett throws it out there. Way cool.
